The Watchful Sun

As the sun shyly peeks through the eastern sky
A newborn babe begins to cry
Both beautiful in their own way
As they each begin their very first day

As the sun reaches its morning peak
Watching as the student steps out to begin their week
Riding the bus to school each day
As they go to learn new things, make friends, and play

The sun begins to give off its midday heat
As its ward gathers his family in the street
Taking his wife and kids on a long planned trip
Their silent guardian refusing to let them slip

As the sun slowly descends during late afternoon
He decides to grant his acquaintance a boon
The road has been long, it’s time to retire
They’ve got grandkids to watch and inspire

As the sun reaches its twilight hours
Their friend sits alone and cowers
Left alone and weak at their bedside
Looking down, his companion sorrowfully cried

And as the sun’s final rays disappear at last
So too does the human’s life come to pass
Much as day eventually gives way to night
So too ends every human’s plight.
