Life’s Reasoning
Life is a precarious thing
Floating by on gossamer wings
One day the wings are cut, the book is shut
It is the destiny of all things
From penniless paupers to wealthy lords
Is death ever abhorred
The lord is dead, his pyre red
Leaving his people to move forward
So mothers hold your children tight
Protect them day and night
The day will come, when they leave home
And go out into the light
Fathers love your wife
Through victory and strife
Your vows keep chaste, until your days have passed
And you depart as one from this life
Children, respect the wise
Fall not into the trap of lies
From your lessons learn, from your hearts yearn
And may you have peace throughout your lives.

As you can likely tell this poem is somewhat unorganized and raw. I went into the reasons why in the comments of a previous poem, so I will not rehash that story here.
This poem and Path’s Ending were written at basically the same time and designed as mirror opposites to each other. While Path was written from a viewpoint of doom and despair, this was intended to portray hope and acceptance. Both poems deal heavily on the themes of death and endings, but in drastically different ways.
If you enjoyed this poem, feel free to check out my other works on my page and follow me for more poetry 2–3 times a week right here. I look forward to seeing you all then.
