Introverted Pain

Have you ever danced alone in the pale moonlight?
Did you feel right at home, or were you full of fright?
Solitude can be one hell of a drug
It drives some people crazy, while others let it off with a shrug

Loneliness for some is a great need
I am one such person, yes indeed
There are times I lock myself up so my batteries can charge
So that I can attempt to deal with the public at large

I am introverted, this is completely true
I wish you would understand, I don’t mean to spite you
There are times when there are events I won’t even try
I dislike being in large groups, I’d sooner roll over and die

Going out in public is always such a pain
Even going to work leaves me feeling drained
That’s not to say that I never go out you see
I just prefer to plan everything out carefully

Despite my flaws, I will attempt to give you your due
One of the things I treasure most is my time with you
And in return I give you but one small task
Consider my needs as well, is it too much to ask?

This poem was written as a means of communicating with others the way a introvert might feel and encourage others to take the time to understand where their introverted friends are coming from in comparison to their extroverted friends.

If you are a extrovert, consider the words written above before you try to force your introverted friends to go out to a public gathering, bar, or other crowded place they are hesitant to go to. Try to understand the way they think and feel first rather than trying to force them to “get over” it. While they may not want to go most of the time, they may surprise you occasionally.
