Heart of Darkness

The darkness goes ever, ever on
Long past the final light of day
Now that darkness has fallen, all hope is gone
And I must struggle as I may

Long ago in the merry light of June
We frolicked in the summer sea
Making memories among the sand dunes
We soaked up the light, just you and me

Oh the places we have been!
We have traveled far and wide, You and I
From the land of lakes to the city of sin
Across canyons great to the country of blue sky

The joys we experienced, how merry
We were so happy together, me and you
Every day our journeys varied
There were so many things we wanted to do

I was your yang and you were my yin
We were complete in every way
Until the day the darkness moved in
And from me stole you away

It was unpredictable and sudden
Nothing I did could help me to prepare
Left alone the negative emotions flooded in
I don’t feel like going anywhere

I walk the streets alone at night
Lost in a haze, I continuously stew
I have but one pinprick of light
Coming from my cherished memories of you

The darkness goes ever, ever on
Long past the final light of day
My memories of you are all that keep me strong
I think of you every hour of every day
