Free Bird

I hear the birds in the trees
Singing about the wonders of being free
Yet grounded here I am
Lost and alone without a plan

I watch as the butterflies fly by
On their path across the great blue sky
Here on Earth my soul remains bound
Rooted in place to the hardened ground

As I watch the waves on the deep blue sea
The fish dart ever by swimmingly
Yet eternally trapped I remain
It’s slowly driving me insane

Though I see the beauty in my surroundings
I feel my stress is always compounding
I cannot yet stop to lay down and rest
Surely this life has been another test

Challenges lay ahead for me to overcome
Yet I continue to feel emotionally numb
Will my heart ever be free as a bird
My cries to this day yet remain unheard
