Dear John

I was nervous and scared, lost and alone
You gave me a place I could feel at home
You were kind and true, no need to pretend
A gentle soul and always a true friend

Despite our differences we managed to connect
And I held you always in the highest respect
Whether it was business or just to shoot the breeze
Being around you always helped put me at ease

Around others you had nothing but good things to say
And you never got angry or let your temper run away
The friendliest of nerds, you welcomed all types
Always willing to listen to all of our gripes

Then came the day that you decided to leave
I was shocked and hurt, I couldn’t believe
You’d departed for the heavens some time ago
Your time was up, this I now know

To this day, thinking about you makes my heart ache
But though I may bend, I will never break
And I know what you have done all the while
You’re my guardian angel, I miss you and your uplifting smile
